Do you look around your house and see clutter and chaos in every room? Are you so overwhelmed by the clutter and mess that you don’t feel like you can lead the life you dream about? Maybe it is time for a serious de-cluttering project. All it may take is just an input of time and a little money to make your home much more efficient and liveable.

After the initial clean up and placement of items into drawers and closets, you need to find ways to use your space more efficiently, so the clutter and mess won’t start acculmulating again. The area where you do your laundry is a good starting point. Set up a system that minimizes your movements. You could have all family members bring their dirty clothes to a centrally located basket every day before leaving for work, school, or play. Then, instead of wandering all over the house twice a week looking for THEIR dirty clothes, all you have to do is grab the full hamper and head for the washing machine. To ensure cooperation from kids and spouses, make a rule: only items in the hamper will be washed. They will learn.

How many minutes do you spend every week looking for a large enough empty space to set up your ironing board, and then wrestling with the ungainly contraption to set it up? A great way to save space, time, and frustration is to install a wall mounted ironing board in a convenient spot near your laundry machines. There are several options available including full sized boards that open out into a room as well as compact boards that fit into smaller spaces. When you are ready to iron, all you have to do is fold the board down and get started. No more taking the time and effort to wrestle your old-fashioned board out only to have it be in your way.

As well as the laundry room, think about other areas of the house where you spend lots of time. Organize your kitchen for the most efficient arrangement of pots, pans and other cooking tools relative to where you will need to use them. Check out outdoor spaces such as your garage or workshop and investigate ways to make more efficient use of space. And, while you are at it, consider ways to make your whole house more fun and attractive so your family will be less likely to let it get all cluttered up.
